blame disney, western viewers seem to think if its a cartoon then its for kids.

I haven't seen UP but I've heard it's got some real emotions in there. Even Wall-e wasn't exactly happy go lucky.

Up was good. The plot of the story on why he went out and did this is what made it sad and emotional.

I really enjoy animated films like that. Although I wasnt expecting it to be a saddish type of movie, it was still pretty entertaining.

i guess i would be forced to admit it wasn't as sappy as some disney stuff i could name, but it wasn't exactly hard either. iirc the most violent thing in the entire movie was name calling and implied violence that never manifests. now that i think of it i would have to say up was a better movie then new moon lol thats sad.

Although not new, I watched "All Dogs go to Heaven" recently. I was surprised at the content of the flick. Todays animated movies have really gotten soft (by comparison).

Well if you think about it, they can never go back.

I remember Secret of NIMH (made by the same studio) being pretty hardcore. I need to see that again and confirm it is as fucked up as I remember.

Oh, and there is this: Watership Down (Wikipedia). Im guessing my parents didn't read the box cover when they rented it for a 6 and 4 year old.

I'm glad you got it. I thought it may have been too subtle. It's really the only part of the entire movie I still remember from when I was a kid.

I was originally going to reply with "Oh, he'll be back", but I wasn't sure if it was too subtle ('cause it's only mentioned once just before the credits roll) for your subtle reference.

secret of nihm was pretty messed up. that crow gave me nightmares.

for that matter, the old Lotr cartoons were pretty intense as well. They way they were animated, even the narrator's voice were not very 'disney'.

on that note, wanted toss in my .02 that up was indeed a great movie.
