Post Proposition:
I'm just trying to gauge interest here...

As you all know every year I try to make a plug to Childs Playvia these forums, or at least spread the good word amongst family and friends, and I was thinking... what better way

1) embrace the fact that I'm no longer in Japan
2) Support the charity I so enjoy
3) give an excuse to get the old NP gang together
4) Embrace a new locale that's still quasi close to where most of us are (sorry colorado, and Jane you always fly so w/e)

The Annual Childs Play Charity dinner and auction is in Seattle, typically costs around $100-$150 a head (if i'm remembering correctly) and happens mid-December. Formal attire is required, but not black tie.

Being one who truly lost all holiday spirit for the past few years (being deployed, being away from my family, and before that working retail *shudder*) I think this would be a good step back in the right direction.

My place will probably be able to house a few people who don't mind crashing on the couch/floor (but by floor I have several Japanese futons coming with me... quite comfy really), and if enough people actually want to come I'm sure we could work out lodging for the rest.

Update: Just got a response from the Foundation coordinator, and they should have a firm date pinned down within a month or so. As of now they are aiming for 2nd week in December.

Hm. Tempting. I'll have to see what the year looks like vacation wise for me, and for the lady. My mom wants me at least to go to California in September or August or something for my grandma's birthday, but I'm not sure I want to go tbh, which yeah, whatever, shitty to say, blah blah blah, but I'd rather spend a vacation with friends than family. Hell, I'm closer with my friends than any of my family anyway.

So yeah. We'll see. December may prove difficult to get time off work regardless, but I'll keep it in mind.

e: Also, aside from high school proms, business casual is as formal as I've ever had to get. So some new threads may need to be considered if this is particularly more formal than slacks and a collar.

I remember them saying something to the tune of: "We'll be in black tie, but we know most gamers don't have the income to want to go out and get tuxes at the drop of a hat. At the same time, if you show up in jeans, you will be scolded. That being said, shirt and tie is a must, but we encourage to dress up as much as is reasonable."

If you are lucky, you can get a nice suit at banana or express for less than $200 on sale. I think I paid $280 for slacks, jacket, shirt, tie, belt, and cufflinks. Just have to get it at a good time... full retail would have cost me close to a grand.

If clothing is the only real obstacle for anyone, let me know. My long days at sea have caused me to be pro at deal finding

I think I could be down, if I know date a few months in advance. (like 2 or 3) black tie isn't a problem for me, and a place to rest my head would be nice.

I'll see what I can do!

I'm pretty sure John (East) and Ty (Amarin) wouldn't mind housing a couple people if necessary.

I've been looking for an excuse to drop $150 on going to this for a while, so I vote this happens.
